3 More Unconventional Ways to Improve Your Vision

There is no doubt that it would be great to through away your glasses for good, and improve your vision using natural methods. Stop a minute and really think about it…..

No more costly eye exams or paying inflated prices for your glasses or other eye procedures. There are no more cases of lost glasses or struggling to read a menu or price tag. Really, life would be bliss! You can utilize things like the power of gamma brain waves or even mediation to improve your ocular health.

There are an estimated 150 million people who wear glasses in America alone, according to the Vision Council of America. Additionally, there are over 36 million contact lens wearers. With the cost of exams, and corrective products the Americans spend over $28 billion each year in order to improve their poor or diminishing vision.

Really? That is a ton of money when you really think about it! However, there is hope, and several unconventional ways that you can improve your vision and finally get back to an eyeglass free life.

Supplement Your Diet

You likely know that a well-balanced health diet can improve your health and well-being. However, it can also impact your eyesight. Some of the following foods, supplements and herbs can actually work to prevent eyesight problems, improve ones that exist, and in some cases work toward totally eradicating the condition. These items include:

·       Passion Flower: This will relax the small blood vessels that are located in your eyes which will reduce the stress that is in the muscles.

·       Ginkgo Biloba: this is a free-radical that can increase the flow of nutrients and blood to your retina.

·       Beta Carotene: this is an antioxidant that is found in dark green and orange-yellow fruits and vegetables. When consumed your body will convert it to Vitamin A, which is essential for the proper functioning of your eyes.

Consuming these foods, herbs and supplements regularly can improve a wide array of vision problems or issues that you may be suffering from.

Eye Exercises

Another unconventional method that can help you improve your vision is utilizing eye exercises. Your eyes are a muscle, therefore just as other muscles need exercise to be strong, so do your eyes. When they do not receive this exercise they can become weak. When you have a strong eye muscle it means you can improve your vision. There are many specially designed exercises that can actually reverse the deterioration and actually improve your vision and ability to see clearly.

When you actively use eye exercises you will strengthen and train your eye muscles by stimulating the muscles that are not usually used during regular everyday activities. There are many studies that have shown that the eye exercises can improve the following vision issues:

·       Aging Vision

·       Astigmatism

·       Farsightedness and Nearsightedness

·       Eyestrain

A letter to my competition

Dear competition,

If you catch me looking at you before a race, know this: I am not judging you.  I am not sizing you up.  I am not fearful that you are better than me. I am not thinking that I am better than you.

I'm simply acknowledging you, appreciating you, and feeling grateful to race alongside of you. You may have some strengths that are my weaknesses and I may have some strengths that are your weaknesses, but together we fight to the finish with the same goal in mind.

If it weren't for you, there would be no race, no competition, no determination, no motivation and no will to win! Your talent, dedication and discipline fuels my fire each race.  So when you see me looking at you, know that I am silently thanking you for pushing me to be the best athlete that I can be! Copyright: Kimberly Trefilek

Why I quit the whole30 at day 24

I quit the whole30 and I feel the best i've ever felt. I NEVER quit at anything. I quit not because I couldn't do it, but because I refused to do it anymore. Let me explain. I am someone who is conscious of what goes in my body and I eat pretty healthy & clean on a regular basis.  I have a few indulgences in the week that make me quite happy, such as pizza, dark chocolate & gluten free pancakes from walker brothers. As my friend said I'm not one to live in a box. I knew the whole30 would be a challenge with always being on the go, working long days, hating to cook & loving food, especially convenient foods like oatmeal & protein shakes. However, I did it & to my surprise it wasn't that hard. I went 23 days without a cheat meal & following the guidelines perfectly. I decided to detox from coffee as well. The first 2 weeks were extremely hard on my body. I had no energy (no coffee), I was super tired & hungry and I was "detoxing" (aka going to the bathroom) all the time. It got so bad that I wasn't even absorbing any nutrients. After week two I felt better and did notice some positives. My skin was extremely clear and I realized it is possible to not experience any cravings. I loved it! But then, everything took a turn for the worse. My workouts were weak, my skin broke out worse than it ever has, my digestion issues got so bad that for the past few days I experienced the worst stomach & back pain & contractions I've ever felt in my life to where I couldn't sleep.  It was hard to work. I was not productive at all and napping every day.  My clients, friends & family say I look beat up & tired & that I haven't been my bubbly self. Instead I've been irritated and lethargic. I'm not sure what it was in the whole30 program that caused me to feel this way as I have eaten all of these foods before, but my body was not happy. So after learning to let go of my ego & stubbornness I decided I have to quit feeling this way. I really didn't want to, I had only one more week, but I couldn't imagine feeling in this much pain for one more week. I work a lot & have a lot of projects coming up & fitness goals I'm trying to accomplish. I can't accomplish ANYTHING feeling like this. The whole30 is meant to make you feel good and healthy and I felt the exact opposite. So after a breakdown of learning to let go of my ego, I'm finding balance again. I quit the whole30 and went back to Kim healthy! The day i quit, i did an experiment and maxed out at Portillos - burger, hot dog, fries, shake, you name it. The next day, I felt the best I felt in the past month!! I knew something wasn't right after that. After that experiment,  i'm now back to oatmeal, protein shakes, quinoa, dark chocolate, coffee occasionally & cheat meals when I feel like having a damn cheat meal. I'm an athlete and I need to fuel my body like one.  My body needs carbs and sugars and grains, but the healthy kind.  Whole30 did teach me a lot though. I learned that I am in control of my cravings and that I can eliminate them completely. It taught me that I can be creative when cooking. That I can give up coffee if I want to. It taught me that I'm in control & having a balanced lifestyle is important. What it taught me most is thta the most important thing is listening to my body.  It also backed up my belief that everyone's bodies are different and react differently to certain foods & ways of eating. I got rid of some bad habits, like putting creamer in my coffee (I can't believe i liek coffee black now!) and being mindful of sneaky sugars. I'm glad I did the whole30 because of what I learned.  I'm not saying you shouldn't try the whole30. It's a great experience. To those who have tried, succeeded & feel the way you're supposed to feel after the whole30, I'm proud of you, keep it up! As for me, suck it whole30.

My Nutrition Secrets:

Some of my Nutrition Secrets: Hardest food for me to give up: Cheese & Coffee Creamer Food I HATE, but eat because it benefits me: Plain Oatmeal, its a good quick breakfast Best Substitute: Original Coconut Milk Creamer vs Creamer ‘Healthy’ Cheat Food for Cravings: Almonds and Dark Chocolate Favorite Meal: Protein Pancakes Foods I ALWAYS try to avoid: Dairy, Breads & baked Goods (gluten) & any refined sugars. Foods I would eat if there were NO consequences- AKA CHEAT FOODS: PIZZA & OREOS!! Secret Weapon: I eat small meals throughout the day filled with fresh foods (i.e.- fruits, veggies, nuts & protein, quinoa) with the least amount of ingredients, (never processed) and I prepare my own food to avoid any additional sodium intake that restaurants have. Even a salad at Panera or Chipotle Burrito Bowl is cheating in my eyes. If I didn’t make it, I try to only eat it occasionally. For the most part, I go gluten free and dairy free, with the exceptions of a couple of cheat days here and there. You are the only one who can truly control what ingredients go into your meals and your mouth. Eat to live, don’t live to eat. Feed your body with fuel and you will be amazed at how fast your fat weight melts off, how well your taste buds adjust to the changes in your diet and how you will eventually begin to enjoy eating healthy! Advice to live by

Take risks. Never pass up any opportunities, you never know what can come of it. Don't be afraid of failure. If you fail, change your approach and try again until you succeed. Support others, especially those who support you. Be no one else, but yourself.  Speak your mind. Laugh often. Be positive. Never burn bridges, you never know when a person can help you out. Treat others how you wish to be treated. Don't Judge others until you've walked in their shoes. Try new things. Stand up for what you believe in. Do your best in all that you do. Never settle. Do as many good deeds as you can. Follow your dreams. Always keep your word. Don't hate, motivate. Work hard, play hard. Live for today & plan for tomorrow. Love the life you live.  Take a deep breath and enjoy every moment. ♥
